Dr Reinhardt Dreyer

General Medicine

Dr Reinhardt Dreyer is a dual-trained General Physician and Intensivist with extensive experience in acute care, diabetes and endocrine disorders, cardiometabolic medicine, and perioperative optimisation. He is a Fellow of both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and the College of Physicians of South Africa (CMSA).

At the Geelong Specialist Group, Dr Dreyer provides outpatient care for adults with complex medical needs, focusing on:

  • Diabetes Mellitus: Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and insulin pump therapy (CSII).

  • Endocrine Disorders: Thyroid disease (including pregnancy-related thyroid disorders), bone health, metabolic syndrome and workup of adrenal lesions.

  • Cardiometabolic: Resistant Hypertension, Heart failure (HFrEF/HFpEF) optimisation.

  • Pre-operative Medicine: Pre-operative optimisation for patients with multiple comorbidities to reduce perioperative risk.

  • General Medicine: Diagnostic review and management of complex multisystem disease, including medication review to minimise polypharmacy. 

Public Appointments and Academic Roles:

Dr Dreyer holds public appointments at South West Healthcare, where he practises in General/Acute Care Medicine, Intensive Care, and works in the Outpatient Endocrine and Diabetes Clinic. He serves as Director of Advanced Physician Training, overseeing specialist training in general and critical care medicine.

Dr Dreyer is also an Associate Professor at Deakin University’s School of Medicine, where he actively engages in medical education, clinical supervision, and research. His academic and research interests include public health, systems improvement, and clinical outcomes research. He has completed Master’s degrees in Internal Medicine, Public Health, and Clinical Epidemiology.

Outside of clinical and academic commitments, he enjoys reading, travelling, and field hockey to maintain balance.

  • Review consultation (complex) in person or video telehealth
    Total payable $290 (with a medicare rebate of $133.00).
